What causes dandruff?

Dandruff is caused by a fungus called Pityrosporum ovale. Normally, the presence of this shampignon the body does not cause anything.

There are several types of commercially available shampoos, containing ingredients against dandruff fighting active.

However, there is not enough compelling research related to them, they are not registered as medical products, but as cosmetic shampoos.

Most anti-dandruff products contain active ingredients such as sodium bicarbonate, zinc, salicylic acid, selenium sulfide, oil, tea tree and tar.

The substance most effective and most recommended by dermatologists worldwide, is ketoconazole, also known as Nizoral (usually in a concentration of 2%).
